It sounds like most all online law programs aren’t part of the ABA so lack credibility, but I’m curious if there’s any credible way to study law online and work towards a legal profession (for anyone who can’t currently afford the time to devote to full-time, on-campus study, but for whom virtual study is an option.)

Are there any credible alternatives out there?

Thanks

Admission to practice is governed by state law. Most states require graduation from an accredited law school in order to even try to pass the bar exam. There are a few exception, including California but those who go to unaccredited schools fail the bar exam at an alarming rate. Some schools have up to 90 percent failure.

I’m writing a pseudo-fiction book about the lives of drug users and pushers here in NJ, and I wonder what happened to them when they were admitted in rehab centers. The information I got from our local health office were not sufficient. Please help me.

I think that book will be a great source of information for future writers who wanted to know more about drug addiction. Have you tried visiting rehab centers in your area? The best sources of information are the therapists and the physicians who manage drug rehab centers. I have listed a few links that can help you with your book. Good luck.

As an arts graduate who has never studied law or business I am having trouble knowing what to say in applications to law firms in order to convince them I want to be a commercial lawyer. Is reading about business in the papers enough? does anyone know any good general business studies books or any important areas to look at in the press, like the credit crunch. If you have successfully applied to law firms what tips can you give me for applications and interviews. Many thanks!

Here are some top criteria in order to be invited back for an interview:

1. Graduation from a major top-notch law school; not from merely a state certified law school;

2. Having placed within the top 2% of your class – gradewise and perhaps been on the Dean’s list, graduated with Honors, etc.

3. Served any number of summer internships and especially one involving under a judge’s supervision.

Good luck!

I want to work in a law office mabye as a file clerk or receptionist. anyone know the requirements i’ll need?, or any other jobs in the firm similar to those? thankyou

If you want to make really good money; you need to keyboard over 80 words per minute; know WordPerfect inside out. You need to literate on WestLaw and Lexis. You will need terrific phone skills, and above all, understand your place. Which means you serve your attorney you are assigned to, because his/her skills is what creates your position; directly. A paralegal school is a good place to start. I know many people that have law degrees that serve as "paralegal", especially in enormous law firms. A top line paralegal can make 100 k a year even in the Midwest, more than some attorneys. Basically, you have to be competent to do everything except court appearances. Just as with attorneys, the top income is in business/ contract law, tax law, and the top few personal injury practices. Some do have file clerks, receptionists and IT/PC people. There are also firms that have research assistants especially those involved in Federal practices. Another, relatively new position, is office managers, they usually supervise all personnel and the finances of the firm. They are also well paid. Some firms have in house investigators and CPA’s. Best of luck on a new , hopefully , rewarding career

Sometimes I see on here comments about names and changing of spelling, well I just wanted to share with everyone something I have found interesting.

My sister-in-law has just completed a family and extended family tree/history.

One of her great great grandmothers names from in the 1800′s was Natalia, there was also a Nathalie, Natahlia, Carson, Asher, Jasper, Jaxon, Blue, Junior, Amalia, Evie, Hunter and Oakley. These names were all between 1850and1930. There were plenty of run of the mill common names too ie: David, Mary, Paul, Peter, Lynn etc

But I think this shows that some of these names that people think are spelt a little weird or are more modern aren’t really.

What names that are sometimes considered ‘modern’ or spelt weird do others have in their family history?

My grandfather born in 1922 name was Aaron, his brothers (all older) and 1 younger sister names were: Allenby, Linc, Chester, Joseph and Elsie
hollychros – i like your grandmothers name, very unique.

I just thought it was interesting seeing these names from back then

Thank you! I always run into problems with my son’s spelling of his name, everywhere. His name is Jaxon and of course everyone assumes it’s spelled Jackson. I don’t think it’s a very weird way to spell Jackson but I truely like the different look and spelling of it. My name is Megan. Middle name is Ann..so as you can see I don’t have a lot of " creativity" in my name which is why I chose to spice up my children’s names. :)
